I am interested in this kit but w/n have the money until late January or so. Will the sale still be in effect?
Also, will this amp cover later Jimi H. tones very well?
I was going to build the 12000 series 1968 100 watt but since I am new building I need the full instructions for a first time build. I am also concerned about the usability of 100 watt verses 50 watt loudness wise, so I can push the output tubes maybe w/o an attenuator.
Please advise as best as you can on which build I should choose because I will be using this amp alot to gig with in a classic rock band playing Allman Bros. to Boston, Journey, and funk type music, playing some Jimi H. music as well.

Do those optional upgrades make a tonal difference? The Allen Bradley resistor kit?

I’ve been on a hunt for classic “plexi” tone for years. I’ve had some of the boutique takes on the plexi, and while some of them are great amps, I haven’t had one that compares in rich tone and sweetness with the real 1968 plexi I played. A lot of the new builds sound to me more like an early-1970s aluminum-panel amp than a plexi — harder-edged, and the Normal channel is too bassy while the Brilliant channel is too ice-picky. I am wondering if there is some schematic to a 1974 floating around the Internet, and that’s what people are basing their designs from? I resolved to seek out the people whose experience with old Marshalls runs deeper than Internet schematics, and where I’m at in that search suggests that Metro, Blockhead, and Germino need to be checked out.
Last weekend, a buddy demoed his new MetroAmps 50 Watt Plexi Kit build for me. It’s the closest I’ve heard to that 1968 “good one”. To those who are seeking out something closer to the real deal, don’t give up hope! You’ve found it.

Thanks Michael! Much appreciated, and glad you got to hear the Metro. I base all my stuff on original examples of plexis. The schematics on the net are inaccurate. george
